Christiane Franz-Schmitt works exclusively with clay. The material ''clay'' gives her the unique possibility to combine three different cathegories of art in one piece. Painting, sculpturing and pottery.
The artist engages very hard in the human body but she doesn't idealise it, the way it is usual today. She confronts people with their mirror image. Her unusual big sculptures show reality with all bodyown weak points and blemish, like hanging shoulders or the chest of an overweighted person.
The main point of her producing does not lie on the details but on the ensemble, the big picture. Because of this fact she works just with a special kind of wooden bat and not with her fingers. Besides the wish of showing reality the artist wants to cathegorize different kinds of characters. The sculptures show with their bodylanguage different feelings, like boredom, arrogance or loneliness. The monochromacity of the material may forces this effect. The agility of the sculptures is boosted by a second brand. If the technique of "smokefiring" is used, the combination of different materials is responsible for the coinsidental colouring. Therefore each piece is unique.
